PEDAL FOR PAWS
Ishbel volunteers at dog shelters and assists in front line rescues as she pedals around the world. She uses the trailer attached to her bicycle to rescue dogs and the odd cat! World Bike Girl is used as a platform to raise funds for medical/travel costs and finding homes.
So far the World Bike Girl community has raised £5000 for street animals.
Ishbel advises animal rescue groups on social media and adoption photography and shares what she has learned from projects around the world, whilst promoting adoption.
Street dogs feature in Ishbel’s public speaking about cycling the world and she offers free talks to local animal groups, sharing information between countries.
Ishbel has written a book about Lucy, the first street dog she rescued in Turkey, published in UK as ‘Me, My Bike and a Street Dog Called Lucy’ (Bradt Travel Guides) and USA/Canada under title, ‘Saving Lucy – A Girl, A Bike, A Street Dog’ (Velo Press) (USA/Canada) in 2018.
“There is great misunderstanding about the world of street animals and I hope by sharing my experiences and the knowledge from experts I’ve met along the way that people are in a better position to know how best to help.” Ishbel Holmes
