One of the greatest positives about ditching the package holidays and getting off the beaten track for your annual leave experience, is getting to see so many different ways of living.
So what’s so great about that you ask?
Seeing so many different lives existing in the world, gives you first hand experience that human happiness is not dependant on material circumstances. Happiness is a state of being. It’s a choice; even if it’s a choice that takes effort at times. It’s a state of being that is dependant on you and not on things outside yourself.
With the average person trading 90,000 hours of their life in exchange for money and 80% being dissatisfied with their jobs, it’s important to be sure that what you are spending your money on is worth the value of the time you are trading.
If you think your happiness is dependant on a new television, car or house, then your choice of thinking allows this belief to exist, making you dependant on materialism for happiness. Which is fine, as long as you are aware you are trading the hours of your life for such beliefs. Happiness is a choice. It cannot be bought.
Travelling off the beaten track, allows you more awareness of happiness and it’s independence of materialism. This is invaluable in your life as you are more able to make decisions based on you rather than any illusions created by the society you are born into.
Maybe it’s time to give some thought to ditching that next package holiday and trying something a bit different to expand your experience of the world. You will benefit from it.
